Adolescence is a time of tremendous change for girls; their bodies and brains, their friendships and identities are tested and challenged, rewarded and negated. In individual therapy with tween and teen girls, we seek to help them identify, understand and stay connected to what is really true for them. Amidst the wash of external and internal pressures, it’s so easy for young girls to be knocked off-balance. Having a trusted adult to serve as mentor and guide can provide a ballast for their sense of integrity and truth. Girls are searching for ways of connecting and making meaning in their lives, but all too often, they are seeking answers in the wrong places. This can manifest in anxiety, depression, self-doubt, lack of confidence, loneliness, and/or rebellion. We believe adolescent girls are craving a connection to something larger than themselves, and part of teen therapy is to help them understand this quest and to make meaning and connection in healthy, life-affirming ways.
Our middle school girls therapist provides young tweens and teens with a place of understanding and acceptance. As these girls try to navigate a tumultuous world having a place that remains calm and constant can be incredibly important to their growth. Through pyschotherapy, teen girls will be taught healthy coping strategies as well as self acceptance, both of which will allow them to transition to adulthood successfully.
